Vertrel® MCA is a powerful, ozone-safe degreaser optimized for the organic contamination typically found in oils and grease. It is a clear, colorless liquid with almost no aroma. Other unique physical properties include a very high density, a very low viscosity and low surface tension. When these features are combined with the nonflammable nature of the solvent, plus the product's exceptional chemical and thermal stability, low toxicity and easy distillation, it becomes clear that Vertrel® MCA is a nearly-perfect degreaser for all advanced metal cleaning applications. Most customers chose Vertrel® MCA because it is one of the most powerful degreasers well-suited for use in vapor degreasing of the most difficult soils. It has been specified by several companies as the optimal choice for degreasing and purging oxygen systems. In chemical terms, Vertrel® MCA is a proprietary azeotrope of HFC 43-10mee and trans-1,2-dichloroethylene. It has "zero" ozone-depletion potential and a low global warming potential. Details about the solvent and its physical properties are found in the DuPont Product Spec sheet, available as a PDF file.
Vertrel® MCA has a broad range of cleaning capabilities. it is highly effective on cutting oils, stamping oils, gear oils, vacuum oils, heavy greases, waxes, hydraulic oils and mineral oils. Vapor degreasing should be used for optimum cleaning effectiveness and economy. As a cold cleaner, Vertrel® MCA is a superior cleaner for closed oxygen systems and their components. Vertrel® MCA is compatible with most polymeric materials commonly encountered in degreasing of precision parts. Acrylic, ABS, and polycarbonate parts, particularly if under stress, may show slight cracking or crazing damage and should be tested. EPDM, butyl rubber, Buna-S and neoprene are recommended for elastomeric parts. Testing before widespread deloyment is recommended.
Vertrel® MCA exhibits no closed cup or open cup flash point, and is not classified as a flammable liquid by NFPA or DOT. In addition, the product has no vapor flammability limits in air. Data from acute toxicity studies has demonstrated that Vertrel® MCA has low toxicity. It is a slight skin and eye irritant and has low inhalation toxicity. For details about the safety of the solvent carefully read and understand the data in the DuPont Material Safety Data Sheet, available as a PDF file. Vertrel® MCA is completely ozone-safe and is accepted by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) under the Significant New Alternatives Policy (SNAP) program as a substitute for ozone-depleting substances. All the ingredients have been TSCA listed.
Vertrel® MCA is thermally stable and does not oxidize or degrade during storage. Vertrel® MCA is available commercially in 55-gal (208-L) drums, 5-gal (19-L) pails and one-gallon (five liter) packages. One liter canisters are available from Micro Care Marketing Services on request. Customers are encouraged to secure samples for compatibility and performance testing.
