Nonflammable and with good compositional stability, MicroCare CMS is an ideal choice for use in vapor defluxer systems as a defluxer and precision cleaner. Tailored for ionic contamination, it is ideally suited for use in vapor degreasing equipment for cleaning ionic soils, flux residues and solder pastes from electronic assemblies. It also can be used for precision and general industrial cleaning where enhanced solvency is required. Specifically, MicroCare CMS is a near-azeotrope of a nonflammable hydrofluorocarbon HFC solvent called HFC 43-10mee (which is also known as 2,3-dihydrodeca-fluoropentane), and HFC-365mfc (pentafluorobutane), methanol and trans-1,2-dichloroethylene. It has "zero" ozone depletion potential and low global warming potential, and is accepted by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) under the Significant New Alternatives Policy (SNAP) program, as a substitute for ozone-depleting substances. MicroCare CMS is ideally suited for use in either a vapor degreasing system or in aerosol packaging. It has enhanced solvency for both difficult "rosin" and "no clean" fluxes and pastes. It also is moderately useful on hydrocarbon soils, making it particularly versatile and an ideal choice in many precision cleaning applications. Test on plastics before wide-scale deployment. Users typically select MicroCare CMS because it is the most affordable defluxer with also is (a) nonflammable, (b) completely ozone-safe, (c) effective of almost any type of flux or paste, (d) instant-drying and (e) low aroma. It is an ideal replacement for HCFC-141b, HCFC-225, n-propyl bromide and perfluorocarbon solvents (PFCs) in many electronics and industrial applications. Details about the solvent and its physical properties are found in the DuPont Product Spec sheet, available as a PDF file.
MicroCare CMS has excellent miscibility with most fluxes, hydrocarbon oils, esters, ketones, ethers, ether-alcohols, and the lower alcohols, such as methanol, ethanol and isopropanol. The lower hydrocarbons, such as hexane and heptane, are also soluble. MicroCare CMS has excellent materials compatibility, but testing before widespread deloyment is recommended.
Data from acute toxicity studies has demonstrated that MicroCare CMS has low toxicity. MicroCare CMS is been assigned an Acceptable Exposure Limit (AEL) a of 268 ppm for 8- and 12-hr time weighted average, and a 400 ppm ceiling b a AEL. MicroCare CMS is a very stable near-azeotrope blend. Like most of the MicroCare products, this product is not flammable. The product exhibits no closed cup flash point per the Pensky-Martens Closed Cup Tester (ASTM D93). As such, it is not classified as a flammable liquid by NFPA or DOT. For further details about the safety of the solvent carefully read and understand the data in the MicroCare Material Safety Data Sheet, available as a PDF file.
MicroCare CMS is easily recoverable by off-line and in-line distillation equipment such as a vapor degreaser or a still. It is thermally stable and does not oxidize or degrade during storage. MicroCare CMS is available commercially in 55-gal (208-L) drums and five-gallon and one-gallon pails. One one-liter canisters are available from MicroCare Marketing Services on request. Customers are encouraged to secure samples now for compatibility and performance testing.
