MicroCare CF is a mild, plastic-safe, ozone-safe solvent, carrying agent and displacement cleaner. Chemically, the product is an azeotrope-like, patent-pending blend of a nonflammable hydrofluorocarbon HFC solvent called HFC 43-10mee (which is also known as 2,3-dihydrodeca-fluoropentane) and HFC-365mfc (pentafluorobutane). It has "zero" ozone depletion potential and low global warming potential. It is an ideal replacement for the ozone-depleting solvents such as CFC-113, HCFC-141b, HCFC-225 and perfluorocarbon solvents (PFCs) in many applications. This cleaner can be used as a rinsing agent or a flushing solvent for micro-particulate removal. Since it is very dense and heavy, but very mild, it should be used in applications where material compatibility is an important factor. It also is relatively inexpensive to use because, due to its excellent compositional stability, is can safely be used in heated systems such as vapor degreaser and easily recycled and re-used. As a carrying agent, MicroCare CF is an excellent choice. The product was formulated as a carrier agent for fluorocarbon lubricants, such as DuPont's Krytox fluorolubricants. In this application the MicroCare fluid provides a nonflammable, fast-drying medium that deposits a uniform, thin layer of lubricant as the solvent quickly evaporates. Customers will generally chose MicroCare CF because it offers superior materials compatibility, plus it is the least expensive choice for applications which require ozone-safe, nonflammable, plastic-safe solvents and carrying agents. Details about the solvent and its physical properties are found in the DuPont Product Spec sheet, available as a PDF file.
This product is a particularly mild fluid, so most plastics can be safely used with it. Acrylic, ABS, and polycarbonate parts, particularly if under stress, may show slight cracking or crazing damage and should be tested. EPDM, butyl rubber, Buna-S, and neoprene are recommended for elastomeric parts. None of the common materials tested for compatibility were unsuitable for cleaning in MicroCare CF. MicroCare¨ CF also was found to be compatible with aluminum, copper and iron.
Like most of the MicroCare products, this product is not flammable. The product has ben formulated and tested for stability over all normal operating temperatures. For example, the product exhibits no closed cup flash point per the Pensky-Martens Closed Cup Tester (ASTM D93) and it is not classified as a flammable liquid by NFPA or DOT. For further details about the safety of the solvent carefully read and understand the data in the DuPont Material Safety Data Sheet, available as a PDF file. MicroCare CF has zero ozone depletion potential, low global warming potential, and is not photochemically reactive (100% VOC exempt). The product also is VOC compliant under the California South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) regulations, which require a VOC content of less than 50 g/L of solvent. MicroCare CF is accepted by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) under the Significant New Alternatives Policy (SNAP) program, as a substitute for ozone-depleting substances. MicroCare CF is not a hazardous air pollutant (HAP), and therefore not subject to NESHAP regulation. MicroCare CF is not included in the SARA Title III Section 313 list of toxic chemicals, and is not subject to SARA Title III (EPCRA) reporting requirements.
MicroCare CF is thermally stable and does not oxidize or degrade during storage. The cleaner is available commercially in 55-gal (208-L) drums and five-gallon and one-gallon pails. One one-liter canisters are available from Micro Care Marketing Services on request. Customers are encouraged to secure samples now for compatibility and performance testing.
