Is Vertrel® Hazardous? -- Can It Harm My Skin or Eyes ?

The short and simple answer is: No, the Vertrel® products are not hazardous.

The Vertrel® products are nonflammable liquids or azeotropes that are generally nontoxic and safe under normal working conditions. At all normal concentrations, vapors from Vertrel® fluids will have little or no effect on one's health, skin or eyes.

All that said, employees should be aware that contact with higher concentrations should be avoided. For example, it would be a poor work practice to insert one's hands inside the vapor zone of a degreaser or into the liquid Vertrel®. If direct contact with the liquid is a potential, gloves should be worn.

Similarly, Vertrel® may cause temporary irritation if accidentally splashed into the eyes. Users should always be required to wear eye protection whenever working with Vertrel® or any other chemical.
