|
HFC-365 is a special inerting additive used in the Vertrel® blends to improve the handling and cleaning of the mixtures. It is safe for the environment as it is S.N.A.P. approved. Using HFC-365 also helps to reduce the cost of the Vertrel® blends, as it is significantly less expensive than many of the other ingredients in the Vertrel® products. The technical name for HFC-365 is 1,1,1,3,3,Pentafluorobutane. It has been assigned the CAS number of 406-58-6 . The material is manufactured in Europe for use as a solvent, a blowing agent (to make styrofoam and similar products) and as a specialty fluid for industrial applications. There is no current Federal OSHA Permissible Exposure Limit or ACGIH TLV value established for this product. The manufacturer of this material (Solvay) has established an AEL (Acceptable Exposure Limit) as an 8 hour and 12 hour Time Weighted Average (TWA) of 1,000 ppm. This means the product is relatively nontoxic and safe for people. Other toxicity reports amplify these findings. The material is a slight eye irritant but has no other major health concerns. Initial toxicity reports indicate no signs of carcinogenicity. At elevated concentrations, HFC-365 induces feelings of intoxication, restlessness, dizziness and drowsiness. At the highest elevated concentrations, there is a risk of cardiac arrhythmia and asphyxia by lack of oxygen. As with all solvents, technicians should wear gloves and eye protection when using products containing HFC-365. Here are a few details about the cleaner:
The product has an NFPA rating of "2" for Health, "2" for Flammability and "0" for Reactivity. |
