There are a number of great Vertrel® choices for defluxing
- MicroCare CMS -- This is the modern equivalent to the old Freon® TMS. This product cleans great, is generally plastic-safe (although testing is recommended), and is extremely versatile -- it likes R, RA, RMA, synthetic and even some "no clean" fluxes and pastes. When you're working with dense, tight, hot PCBs, MicroCare CMS is a great choice.
- Vertrel® SMT -- Another great choice, this is the workhorse defluxer of the Vertrel® product line. It's very aggressive and suitable for use in heated cleaning systems. A bit more
expensive than MicroCare CMS, this also would be a good choice in a low-emmission vacuum system.
- Vertrel® XMS Plus -- This choice is the strongest defluxer, tailored to the toughest organic contamination. It can carry the highest levels of flux loading and works great on all types of circuit boards and assemblies. Testing on soft plastics is required.
- Vertrel® CHD -- This is "the big gun" is precision defluxing; very strong, not entirely plastic-safe, but awesome cleaning. Special note: Vertrel® CHD is not suitable for use in a vapor degreaser system.
- Vertrel® CF and Vertrel® XF -- These are the two mildest cleaners. They are both plastic-safe, nonflammable, and ultra-mild. They are insufficiently strong to be effective as defluxers, but they can be very effective for rinsing PCBs and as nonconductive contact cleaners.
