How Easy is it to Handle Vertrel® ? -- What Equipment is Required? |
|||||||||
|
Vertrel® solvents are very easy to handle, and almost no special equipment is required. First, and for most users, the best choice is a simple vapor degreaser. These are machines which automatically boil and then re-distill the solvent in one fast, simple and easy process. This proven technology has been on the market since the 1950s. Many companies make these machines. They are relatively inexpensive, especially when compared to aqueous systems. For example, small tabletop units can be purchased for under US$10,000 while even the largest off-the-shelf system with every whistle and bell barely hits US$100,000. Secondly, many customers still use Vertrel® in small trays, dip tanks and open baths. This is acceptable when quantities are low and the baths can be covered between cleaning batches because the Vertrel® solvent evaporates quickly in an uncovered environment. Some companies add ultrasonics to the dip tank to improve the cleaning process, and others have installed small chilling systems around each dip tank, to cool the solvent and retard evaporation. Remember: Vertrel® is not cheap, and you don't want to waste it. Finally, Vertrel® solvents are available in aerosol packaging from a number of different vendors, including Micro Care. For the fastest and easiest cleaning, a simple aerosol can is a great choice. Fume hoods, vapor extraction systems and ventilation systems usually are not required with Vertrel®. Gloves and eye protection are strongly recommended. For larger installations, drum pumps and drum moving gear is recommended. And that's it. Simple. Which is just another reason why Vertrel® specialty fluids are the ideal choice for the toughest precision cleaning applications. |
